Costa Rica (Days 0 and 1) March 23 and 24

Papas, what's up with that luggage?

Conned the restaurant into a special seating area for us and Rufi.

Weird frog sculpture.

Reminiscent of "Starry Night."

Bathroom and snack break.

Map of the town of La Fortuna and the surrounding area.

AWESOME cheeseburger.

Volcán Arenal.  It is 5,358 feet tall and has a 460 foot crater.  Geologically, it is considered a young volcano and it is estimated to be less than 7,500 years old.  It is also known as "Pan de Azúcar", "Canaste", "Volcan Costa Rica", "Volcan Río Frío" or "Guatusos Peak".

Tabacón Thermal Resort and Spa.

Arenal Volcano’s underground magma heats the hot springs, bringing the river-pool temperatures to a range of 72 to 105 degrees Fahrenheit.

Look closely in the background for the four FOOT iguana, just hanging out . . .

Remember, the water is well over 80 degrees.

It's my height!

We napped here for a good 20 minutes.

The "baldy."

The "other baldy."

A green basilisk, also just hanging out.

It's also called a Jesus Christ lizard, because it skims across water as if it's walking on it.

Swim-up bar!

Piña colada . . .

. . . and wine!

Specialty cocktails, created by the resident mixologists.  I had an Ullará by Jonathan Rojas, who actually MADE it for me.

Rafa enjoyed a Berry Blast Reload "mocktail."

Girl reading in the pool.  I get it!

Egg holders at a souvenir shop.

Literally a box of dicks.

Two turkeys.

Motorcycles made from discarded tires.

Fancy dinner and drinks at The Open Kitchen.

Burek Turkish puff pastry pie.

Casados.  Traditional dish of Costa Rica: chicken, rice, black beans, fried plantains, mixed salad and tortilla.

Cool telephone pole art.

And ice cream to top off a GREAT day.
